In January 2016, the US Treasry Department sanctioned several Iranian individuals associated with Iran’s Shahid Hemmat Industrial Group (SHIG) for helping North Korea develop this engine — the infamous “Dudes from the SHIG.”

    Hmmmm, how can I trust your analysis when you don’t even know that the Scud missile is named after the amphipod crustacean????? 😉

    I’d actually never heard of scud clouds before, but looking at other NATO designations I’m still pretty sure they meant the crusty critter.

      I can’t speak to the crustacean ( and if I did I doubt it would answer me) but the term “scud”, meaning low overcast clouds, goes back to at least WW2. The act of flying through such clouds is known as ” scud running” and the term would have been familiar to Air Force personnel.
