Looks like Ian Bruce of the Glasgow Herald secured a statement from MOD on the High Surety Warhead:
An MoD spokesman said: “No decisions on any replacement for Trident have yet been taken and there is no programme to build a successor warhead.”
Interesting non-denial. What I asserted — and what is not denied — is that the AWE scientists are “now considering their own ‘reliable replacement warhead’ program (with many of the same capabilities) as one option for Trident replacement …”
That is perfectly consistent with the MOD statement that the decision has yet to be made and that, as a consequence, there is no program.
