Given the seismic hazard in Iran, is it guaranteed that the centrifuges will be destroyed with any minor seismic events? Is it possible to seismically isolate the centrifuges?
yes, it is. pakistan’s Kahuta facility is located in an area with major seismic activity…it was close to the epicenter of the country’s devistating 2005 earthquake. Although there is evidence that the centrifuges in Kahuta were damaged or destroyed during several eathquakes in the 1980s, it appears Islamabad figured out how to isolate the facility from the affects of future ones.
