Jeffrey LewisBolton to Replace Libby?

Yeah, you read that correctly. This is my least favorite Washington rumor right now.

The Nelson Report cannot confirm it—or the nightmare scenario of Bolton as Cheney’s Chief of Staff, Libby as DepSecDef and Wolfowitz as UN Ambassador.

Bolton to replace Libby is actually great news—relatively speaking. If you had to put Bolton in the one place in the federal government where he could do the least mischief, it’s the VP’s office.

After all, does anyone expect Dick Cheney to moderate his views over the next four years? If Bolton is in Cheney’s office, all he’s doing is reinforcing the existing views of the VP, and not in a position elsewhere to help carry out the VP’s agenda where there might be some real resistance.
