Jeffrey LewisBush to give July address on Space

Bush plans to defend his space exploration initiative in a speech timed to coincide with the release of a report by a presidential commission to review the plan, according to administration sources quoted by United Press International.

UPI also reported that the Hubble Space Telescope may get a reprieve. The Administration/’s hostility toward Hubble has been, to me, a symbol of its broader hostility toward science and learning.

Of course, Bush was also reported as being indifferent to public criticism of his initial plan to de-orbit Hubble. He reportedly told some NASA engineers to “Never look back. Go forth every single day and do the best job you can. The worst thing that can happen is the (voters) send me back to Crawford (Texas) — so that/’s liberating.”

Anything for my commander-in-chief.
