Jeffrey LewisWhat ICC Exemption?

The Bush Administration has paused, for now, its efforts to secure an exemption from prosecution under the International Criminal Court for U.S. forces.

A U.S. official told AP on condition of anonymity that Washington “wants to concentrate on getting the Iraq resolution adopted.” The official denied the U.S. was short of exemption votes. Right. We just don/’t want to overwork the Security Council before June 30.

Amnesty International just released a report calling the Global War on Terror “bankrupt of vision and bereft of principle,” although that didn/’t stop the Bush Administration from wringing unnecessary article 98 agreements from two more countries, Burkina Faso and Dominica, to refuse to hand over American citizens to the ICC.
